YELE HAITI EARTHQUAKE FUND

The 7 point massive earth quake in Haiti is one of the worst natural disasters we have seen in our time. That country has for many years suffered from abuse, neglect and self-destruction. Despite those challenges they need all the help they can get.

Musician and Hip Hop activist Wyclef Jean is the most globally recognized person from the island of Haiti. Please visit Wyclef's Yele Haiti website for up to the minute status on the Earthquake rescue and relief. Additionally you can text YELE to 501501 to donate $5 the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund.

According to a news report I watched, Bill Clinton's International Aid to Haiti is getting over 4,000 monetary contributions per hour due to Technology!

Motivating Message About Technology Education

I saw this Kaplan University commercial this morning, which was greatly inspirational.

"It's Time To Use Technology to Re-Write The Rules of Education!"

I agree with the message in this masterfully done commercial that we must change the way we teach today's youth  and to use technology to do it!

Snoop Dogg Voice Skin for the Tom Tom GPS

Wow! When the two things I love come together. Hip Hop and Technology. Snoop Dogg is one of my favorite Hip Hop artists who has a sick smooth flow when rapping on the microphone and even when just talking cool.

Snoop Dogg has collaborated with VoiceSkins.com and the makers of the TomTom GPS to bring you the Snoop Dogg Voice Skin.

Welcome Message From BDPA Charlotte President Julius Clark

Become a powerful voice in the Information Technology industry that represents the interests of our members and community.

"...Advancing Careers From The Classroom To The Boardroom"

Welcome Message From BDPA Charlotte President Julius Clark

Information Security Professional
On behalf of the BDPA Charlotte Executive Board, I would like to wish BDPA members, sponsors, partners, supporters and the entire Charlotte community a Happy New Year!

I am eager to begin serving you as a chapter president of this amazing and influential organization. People ask why I have spent the last 10 years being so actively involved with BDPA as a volunteer. The answer is simple.  BDPA has allowed me to demonstrate my executive leadership potential when glass ceilings would not. My experiences with BDPA have allowed me to overcome those hurdles and grow as a professional. Now, I have the privilege to serve as chapter president and give back to this important technology organization. I have a deep passion for Information Technology & Engineering with a career that spans more than 20 years in Aerospace, Banking, Biotechnology, Insurance, Manufacturing and Information Security.

BDPA Charlotte is planning an exciting 2010. My first task as president was to create the brand new role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) for BDPA Charlotte. The CIO role will showcase the technical prowess that BDPA Charlotte is well known for by providing Information Technology Thought Leadership for its members, stakeholders and Charlotte community. My second task involved forming a partnership between BDPA Charlotte and the Urban League of the Carolinas. Together, we will have greater impact influencing students from underserved communities to pursue careers in Information Technology in the Charlotte area.

One of the most powerful benefits of BDPA; which I coined “IT Career Revival”, is the annual BDPA Technology Conference. The 2010 National Conference will be held in Philadelphia, July 28 – July 31, 2010; the city of brotherly love! Along with the many technology workshops and seminars held each day, employers from private industry,  government and U.S. military participate in a two day career fair and some offer interviews right on the spot! If you are seeking a new career or wanting to relocate, the BDPA National Conference is an event you can’t afford to miss. We all have persevered and worked through challenges to make it to 2010. Although positive news is being reported about the economy recovering, many of you are facing unemployment and looking for your next career opportunity. As the premier organization for African Americans in Information Technology, BDPA is here to help you meet this challenge. Businesses and entrepreneurs are poised for growth in 2010 and will rely on information technology more than ever to compete for market share. BDPA offers the business community the ability to interface and network with one of the most diverse and skilled talent pools in the country. Since BDPA offers the most diverse and skilled talent pools in Information Technology, corporations partner with us to acquire untapped talent.

Lastly, I want you all to know that the BDPA Charlotte Executive Board is committed to meeting your expectations for providing distinguished technology professionals as speakers at our monthly meetings, as well as career, and networking and opportunities. Now, we can’t do this alone and need your help. BDPA Charlotte needs savvy professionals; be you new to IT or a seasoned veteran. BDPA places its members at the forefront of the Information Technology field and as BDPA Charlotte’s new president I invite you to join our organization to reap its many benefits! Additionally, your membership dollars help support our professional and K - 12 educational programs, and your participation makes the organization more responsive to the people it serves.

In closing, I look forward to a mutually satisfying professional relationship with everyone associated with BDPA in the Charlotte community. The door is always open to you!

Sincerely,

Julius Clark Sr., MBA, CISSP, CISA

Google's Nexus Phone: All You Need To Know!

Here is a great article I found on the web about the new Google Nexus Phone running on Google's Android Operating System. the Apple iPhone has good competition, which will be better for us!

Full Article: http://thenextweb.com/2010/01/05/googles-nexus-one-launch-everything-need-know/

The Nexus One hardware

  • The Nexus One is being billed as a ‘Superphone’ showcase for the evolution of Android and advertising will use the tagline “Where web meets phone”.
  • Spec: 3.7-inch 480×800 AMOLED display, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, a multi-colour notification LED in the trackball, light and proximity sensors, a compass, GPS and accelerometer, stereo Bluetooth, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and active noise cancellation. 5MP camera with LED flash. It’s capable of MPEG-4 video capture and there’s a one-click upload to Youtube feature.
  • It’s super-thin and lighter than a Swiss Army knife. There’s an option to get custom engraving on the metal bezel on the bottom of the back of the device.

Android 2.1

  • This latest version of the OS adds an extra two homescreens (taking the total to five)
  • Extra widgets including a news and weather widget
  • New animated and interactive Live Wallpapers that respond to touch.
  • Fancy 3D effects are used on the new wallpapers, the application launcher and the photo gallery. Photos can be synced with Picassa in the background.
  • You can now fill in every single text box in the OS using your voice. That everything from the address book to the browser.

Google Earth for Android

  • Google is soon to launch a version of Google Earth for Android.
  • The app includes voice activated search.
  • It looks like this will be a Nexus One-only app for now. With some serious 3D going on, this isn’t going to work on older, less powerful handsets.

Buying Nexus One

  • As predicted, Nexus One is available now via a Google web store at google.com/phone either SIM free or at a discount with a T-Mobile USA contract (if you’re a US resident). $529 for an unlocked phone, $179 on T-Mobile. In coming months it will be available with Vodafone (for Europe) and Verizon plans too.
  • At present Nexus One is only available to order from the USA, UK, Singapore and Hong Kong. Additional countries will be added in the future.
  • In future more phones will be available direct from Google, including some Motorola models. More operators will come on board too.

See what this phone can do in just 10 minutes!

App Development

Google's app store does not have nearly as many apps available as Apple's IPhone App store has, but Google has much fewer restrictions than Apple does, which can really get the momentum among developers to create apps we want!

Enjoy,

Julius
